Hair brooch
The brooch is made of my own hair.
The work took about two years.
I let my hair grow for it.
After they were cut, I sorted them by dark and gray.
By hand, hair by hair.
The brooch is arranged in such a way that the gray hair
form a geometric shape in the dark hair.
The hairs stand upright. They stand so close
that at first glance you think you’re looking at a surface.
It was important to me that it is my own hair and it was important to me,
that I sort them myself by hand.
When planning the work, it was clear to me from the beginning,
that I would reach limits and that I would have to and would go beyond limits.
People who get gray hair are often ashamed of it.
At first, individual ones are pulled out, then they are dyed.
There they are anyway.
I then consciously put the white hair back as a kind of disturbing factor, concretized, in the middle of the dark hair. I imagine what the brooch would look like if I were to do exactly the same work again in 15 years‘. How the white geometric shape meets the outer edges. How I get closer and closer.
